Seeing the Big Picture: Leadership and Growth
In leadership and in life, it’s easy to get caught up in our personal roles, preferences, and opinions.
But as John Maxwell shares, true leadership means understanding that “it’s not about you, it’s not about me—it’s about the big picture.” When making decisions, we must consider what’s best for the team, organization, or mission rather than focusing solely on individual wants.
Maxwell reminds us that growth is possible—even if we start off struggling in a certain area, with persistence and a willingness to learn, we can improve. His story is proof that recognizing our weaknesses is the first step to becoming stronger leaders.
This aligns with biblical wisdom: “The Lord will make you the head and not the tail; you shall be above only, and not be beneath, if you heed the commandments of the Lord your God” (Deuteronomy 28:13). When we adopt a mindset of responsibility and vision, we position ourselves as leaders who see beyond the moment and focus on the greater purpose.
Let’s challenge ourselves to look beyond personal preferences and embrace the bigger picture—whether in our workplaces, communities, or personal growth.
